"Only 1 or 2 per cent of television consumption is online, according to Enders figures, with ITV.com’s total monthly views of 10m equivalent to the audience of a single episode of Coronation Street. “Even though it looks like it’s climbing dramatically, [internet TV] is hardly going to have any impact at the moment,” said Mr Syfret in an article from FT.

That said - TV is still the preffered media and/or "web video" has a huge future potential.

FT writes - Thinkbox, the industry body promoting commercial television which published a report from Barb, said a total of 2.4bn advertisements are seen every day, averaging 42 per person. The most watched programme in the first half of the year on commercial channels was May’s final of Britain’s Got Talent, with 13.9m viewers.

Tess Alps, chief executive of Thinkbox, said: “This is a shaft of very bright light that cuts through any economic gloom. Advertisers should be taking advantage of a medium that offers proven effectiveness, increasing value, and is growing.”

It definitely is a genre that is here to stay and it put at lot of pressure on the both broadcast networks and production companies to develop their formats. I believe it's a great way to explore and experience what you are about to pay for when going on vacation? But when I tried to watch a movie at www.fritidsresor.se it failed. I lost all interest in finding a new location after several attempts to see the clip and left the site. Buuu for Fritidsresor for that.

Are you interested in space? I am. And I've been watching several different podcast about space but my two favorites are Hubblecast and UA Phoenix Mars Mission. One little question pops up in my head. Why does these podcasts exist? Well, they are produced/supported by NASA (NASA have their own very exciting WEBTV) and ESA and my guess is that this is a great way to spread the knowledge and to grow interest about space and in particular the NASA and ESA projects. As most projects are founded by different governments (and we are talking about a lot of money) it surely helps if the society is updated and finds it interesting an the podcasts are a very efficient and cheap way to spread the discoveries. Just look at me. I’m writing about it now.

I've really been positive to the possibilities to post a comment directly on a video, but this example at iminlikewithyou shows how bad it can be if no one has anything interesting to say. In addition, it is a good example of how the dialogues held in the forum of mainly young people. The question is whether the behavior is growing away with age, or if everything on the Internet must be adjusted in the future to fit these generations. Or, maybe I am just jealous.

The fantastic 3G Iphone is now officially released. Well done mr Jobs. It's great that I can watch youtube clips without having to be in a wi-fi area, but why haven't they enabled podcast download via 3G? If the download size is a problem, then let me set a maximum size that which podcasts to download. Or even better - create an Iphone version of the podcast (same way as they have done with youtube).

Well, John Roberts in the CNN Politics Daily podcast is certainly trying to act as a forefront man when it comes to interactive media. Check out the screen that he uses (with some hesitation) to demonstrate the statistics. Regardless - it does make it a little bit more interesting to watch. I think I even understood parts of it.

One of the difficulties with content on Internet (and in all other media as well) is promotion or as they say - iNterNeT TraffiCinG. We know that 6% of the online population account for 50% of all display ad clicks and that they are aged 25-44 and that their averge income $ 40 K and that heavy clickers spend 4 times more online than nonclickers. So - what to do?

Well, according to Ted Persson at Greatworks this is how people find their content:

2. Friendforwarding
3. Following a link
4. Received email
5. Referals from blogs

I noticed that HBO promote their documentary film series with a widget that is updated every Monday. An interesting way of spreading the word. But, does it work? I will try and install the widget myself. What do you think?

No more video on Internet?

I just watched an Internet conspiration video from Ipower. Basically they say that - Every significant Internet provider around the globe is currently in talks with access and content providers to transform the internet into a television-like medium: no more freedom, you pay for a small commercial package of sites you can visit and you'll have to pay for separate subscriptions for every site that's not in the package. But If only ONE of the internet providers does not do this it will not happen. So cheer up. We can still look forward to great content on the Internet. Or is it that great. Maybe we need two kinds of Internet. One that is subscription based with great quality content and another one with crap - but unlimited?

Slick way to create your own channel

I recently discovered that the Dailymotions videowall factory enables video content aggregators to present their channels in a really user-friendly way. I’m now rushing into my new project:The Weekly Kempff. The question is though - what kind of videos should I focus on? It’s much harder than I suspected to create an interesting channel with interesting content that everybody else is not already doing. HELP.

During her tenure, Colan never managed to transform the show (directed by creator Andrew Baron) from a quirky but inscrutable cult favorite into a mainstream online news source. (See for yourself below by watching today's weird episode.) Nor did she achieve the same web fame as her predecessor Amanda Congdon, who left a job with ABCNews.com last year."

What is she going to do? Help me find out. But what I want most is Amanda to come back. She's a legend!

Earthquake information on screens around China

The Hong Kong Based network CN is making available daily spots for government information on the Sichuan earthquake and details of how to donate to organisations assisting its victims. Content providers include government TV network CCTV, China's Ministry of Civil Affairs, and the Red Cross Society of China. A fantastic initiativ that also explores the possibilities with out of home TV networks.

Broadcasting will continue for the rest of this month, with a possibility of extension into June. Well done!

I recently discovered the Swedish concert video filming initiative anagrande.tv. A bunch of guys documenting concerts primarily performed in Sweden with, if possible, enjoyable interviews. They present themselves like this “Arena Grande broadcasts live concerts from in and around Sweden. We also try to catch artists before and after concerts. Sometimes we'll do an interview, another time we'll film an exclusive acoustic clip. This is not MTV. We believe in intimate, up close. We believe in detail, in letting the music take place. We believe in love! We believe in people, we believe in life!” Their productions are of great quality and it shows that they love what the do. You can also se their programs on Joost. I wish more of this in the future!

Dayrobber.com is our their channel for broadcasting their shows, but they also distribute their shows on other video websites, mobiles, iTunes and through new and upcoming digital channels. I think that it's a great way to distribute relevant content to relevant aggregators. All in the best interest of the viewer and that would be me!
